Yellow Soft Paraffin: The Multi-Use Product That Is Kinder To The Planet

A photograph of Veil Yellow Soft Paraffin, an unbleached alternative to regular Petroleum Jelly which is kinder to the environment

One of the most well known and used beauty products in the world is Yellow Soft Paraffin. Or Petroleum Jelly as it’s also known as. The multi-use product was first discovered back in 1859 in the USA when oil rig workers discovered the paraffin-like material forming on their rigs after it caused them to malfunction. However, they made use of the material by applying it to skin cuts as they believed it speeded up the healing of abrasions. Fast forward a few years and a young chemist put to work refining the Yellow Soft Paraffin. He did this to explore its other potential uses. After much experimentation and adding bleach to the product to transform it’s yellow appearance to a lighter colour, the first Petroleum Jelly factory opened up in 1870. Ever since then, the product with many uses has been used by generations and generations.

Introducing unbleached Veil Yellow Soft Paraffin that is better for the environment

Today Soft Paraffin is still a much-loved product. It is used by many around the world to help improve several skin conditions. Because of this, we have decided to launch our very own Petroleum Jelly product, but with a twist. Back when Soft Paraffin was first put on the market for cosmetic use, bleach was added to change the appearance to a lighter more appealing colour.

Although this doesn’t cause issues to the skin, the use of bleach and heating the product to combine the two is not good for the environment. This is because of the nasty fumes that bleach gives off and adds into the air that we breathe.  At a time when global warming is a bigger issue than ever, we asked the question: Is the bleaching of the product to purely alter the appearance worth the impact on the environment? Our answer is no. Therefore we have created our take on Petroleum Jelly, called Veil Yellow Soft Paraffin.

An unbleached product that is excellent for a wide range of skin conditions

You might be asking yourself, how does Veil Soft Paraffin compare to the leading brands? Well because we do not add any bleach to our product is it much better for the environment. Because the product does not contain bleach, our Soft Paraffin also has a slightly darker appearance. However, our product is still British Pharmacopoeia Grade meaning that it 100% safe to use on the skin. Not only is our Soft Paraffin environmentally friendly, but it is also an incredible multi-use product.

Veil Yellow Soft Paraffin can be used in many ways. One of which is to prevent moisture loss. By creating a protective barrier the product enables lips, hands and nails to keep hydrated and soft. The product can even be used after getting a fresh tattoo for creating a protective barrier to aid in the healing process. The product is also handy in colder weather when you want to lock in both heat and moisture. Another way in which Yellow Soft Paraffin can be used is as a skin lubricant to prevent friction. This is handy if you suffer from chafing caused by cycling or long-distance running.
